Compliance is Very Important
Clear braces are much more appealing than traditional metal braces. They are removable for eating and drinking. These are great things, but it also means compliance is up to you.
Invisalign works best when kept in the mouth for at least 22 hours. This means you need to be ready to brush right away after eating and put them back in. If you leave them out, your treatment time could be delayed. You will be able to work with us to get answers to all your questions.
We can suggest tips and tricks for getting used to the regiment.
Expect More Frequent Appointments with Invisalign
You will swap out aligner trays about every two weeks. When first starting treatment especially, your orthodontist will want to check on your progress often. Once they can confirm your teeth are moving as expected, they will supply you with a few months of trays. This means you won't have to come for a visit as often.
If you live a busy life, don't worry. We are happy to work around even the busiest of schedules to ensure your teeth get proper care.
Brushing and Flossing
While using aligners, you need to ensure you are brushing and flossing every day. You will quickly realize you will be brushing a lot more than you used to. This is because you will need to brush after each time you eat.
If you don't do this, you risk food getting stuck in your teeth or aligner. Left unattended, these particles could lead to cavities or tooth decay. Trays will also start to turn color over time, usually yellow.
Brackets for Adjustments
One final thing to know about aligners is that you might need brackets on your teeth. These are tooth-colored little squares similar to metal brackets. They help aligners grip and move teeth. If you need them and how many you need will depend on your specific treatment plan. We can work with you to ensure you only have as many as you need.
Usually, they aren't noticeable. But if you have them on your front teeth, other people may notice them.
Get Excited About Smiling Again
As you can see, deciding to get Invisalign is a big decision, but one that will have immense benefits. Treatment takes dedication and patience, but it's possible.
